Scholars

The WREN Scholar program seeks to uplift and support women in research at Northeastern. Scholars gain access to a number of exclusive benefits, including research cohorts, skill building workshops, speaker events, and more.

The WREN Scholar program is open to any undergraduate women in research interested in applying. Applications are reviewed at the beginning of each semester.

Overview

The WREN Scholar Program is for undergraduate female-aligned students at Northeastern with experience in research. This experience can be in any discipline and through any avenue. As a Scholar, students not only gain access to an interdisciplinary cohort of women in research, but also to multiple exclusive programming events each semester. These events help students build skills and form stronger connections with both their peers and Northeastern faculty members. They can range from panels on diversity in research, to abstract writing workshops, to group picnics and other outings.

Scholars are also eligible to submit a poster/abstract to present at the annual WREN Summit, a research showcase and daylong event to celebrate women in research at Northeastern held in December. Applications to join the Scholar Program open at the beginning of each semester and are accepted on a rolling basis.

Eligibility

Any female-aligned undergraduate student involved in research is eligible to apply. The research may be on any topic, and may occur on campus through a professor, independently, on co-op, or elsewhere. Students newly starting a research project may become a Scholar at the same time (a full semester of prior research is NOT required). Students previously involved in research but not currently pursuing an opportunity are also welcome to apply.

Program Requirements

All Scholars must attend a minimum number of events each semester, including the WREN Summit during fall semesters. Events are held at different times throughout the week to accommodate varying schedules. Average time commitment per week will be  1 hour or less. After being initially accepted to the program, students will have the option to continue their membership the following semester without having to submit an additional full application.
